Once opon a time?

Today i was thinking about books, not just any books but fairy tales. So all fairy tales start with once upon a time right? but why? Do they absolutely have to? I mean I could right a fairy tale right now and it did`nt have to begin with once upon a time and end with they lived happily ever after. So that is exactly what I did. So here goes, hope you like it.

One cold and cloudy day a princess was walking along the beach, wearing her silk, purple gown. Thinking and looking at the sky. She thought it looked as if someone had painted it and because the princess could see the delicate streces of the sky. then the princess heard her name being called demi, demi. So the princess started toward the castle as demi walked back to the twinkly old castle the little creaters could hear Demi`s quiet foot steps. When princess demi got back to the castle her mother had some news that Demi `s little baby cosion was coming over. So demi went to bed and awakened to see some flowers at her door. with a note saying meet me at the bridge tonight. Demi was very curious, who was this person? what did he want? why did he send the flowers? That night her little cusin came and was asleep in demi`s bed. So Demi put a jacket on and snuck out to the riced bridge. When demi got to the bridge she saw a man dressed in a red coat. Demi could`nt make out his face. then the man grabbed demi and carried her to an underground hideout. In this small safe place the walls were coverd in paintings and drawings of Demi. then suddenly the cave went dark and light again butwhen it became bright again but the man was gone....
